Health & Accident

Preventative health measures are necessary in the preschool setting. If your child is not well, please keep him/her at home. We will contact you or your emergency contact if your child becomes ill at preschool. Please let us know if your child contracts, or has been exposed to, a communicable disease.

Keep your child at home if he/she shows any of the following signs/symptoms:

  • fever of (38°C) or higher

  • consecutive bouts of diarrhoea, or has vomited within the past 24 hours

  • skin infection, undiagnosed rash, eye infection or signs of infectious disease

  • parasite related conditions (impetigo, scabies, head lice, etc.)

  • acute cold with running nose or eyes, sore throat

  • has been on antibiotics for less than 24 hours

Your child may return to preschool when:

  • the temperature is within the normal range
  • child has had atleast one normal bowel movement after the bout of diarrhea

  • 24 hours has passed since the last bout of vomiting

  • child has been examined by a doctor and has received medical clearance for an infection of parasite related conditions

  • after being on antibiotics for 24 hours

Staff can refuse a child who is too ill to attend the preschool, and may request medical clearance.

Unless children have a chronic illness and require ongoing medication, we do not administer medication at the preschool.

In cases of sever injury or illness, we will contact the parent immediately. If we are unable to reach a parent, we will arrange to take the child to the hospital. Medical consent forms and medical record forms will be taken to the hospital along with the child. A form will be given to parents in order to provide us with a current list of any medications, allergies and medical concerns.

Please keep us informed of changes in your family’s doctors, dentists, and your child’s general health.
